Getting started

The Research Capability Hub helps the UK social science community find, share and shape research training. It brings together courses, events, resources and development opportunities from a wide range of providers in one place.

Use this guide to understand what the platform currently offers, what is still developing during beta, and how researchers, providers and partners can get involved.

What you can do

You can use the Hub to discover training and resources, explore opportunities by theme or topic, and find provision from different organisations without searching across multiple websites.

• Browse and search: Anyone can browse or search for training, events, resources and guidance that support different stages of the research lifecycle.
• Plan your development: Researchers can register to bookmark training courses, resources and events, organise them into multiple lists, and share those lists with others - helping to build personalised learning pathways and career development plans.
• Share your provision: Providers can register and publish information about their courses, events and resources so they are easier for researchers and learners to discover.
• Shape the ecosystem: Partners and stakeholders can help identify gaps, shape future priorities and contribute to a more connected research training ecosystem.

If you are a learning provider

If your organisation offers research training, professional development, methodological training or other capacity-building activities for social science researchers, you can register as a provider. This will enable you to add courses to the site; the Hub does not replace your own website or booking system; it helps researchers discover your provision and directs them back to you.

If you are a researcher

Researchers can register with the Hub to bookmark training courses, resources and events. They can organise bookmarks into multiple lists for different interests, projects or development goals, and share those lists with others, for example with colleagues, supervisors, cohorts or networks.

In future, learning pathways will use the information learners provide to suggest training and resources that match their interests, development needs and stage of research.

Beta status

The Hub is currently in beta. We are actively expanding the range of learning and development opportunities available, and some content and features are still being refined. As the Hub grows, we will continue to improve areas such as search, filtering, navigation, bookmarking, and personalised learning pathways. Your participation and feedback help us identify priorities, improve the user experience, and shape the future development of the Hub for learners, providers and researchers.

What's coming next

Over the coming months, we will expand the range of content, improve search and navigation, strengthen metadata and categorisation, and develop learning pathways that use learner-provided information to suggest relevant training and resources. We will also share more information about the Flexible Fund, which will support new training and capacity-building activity in priority areas identified by the community.
